Long Live Awesome!  For June 2017’s Great Outdoors Month, we celebrated by hosting a photo contest on Instagram to encourage our audience of outdoor educators and enthusiasts to reignite the spark of passion for those wild outdoor places.  Thank you to all our professional photographer friends, community members, and influencers who submitted photos!

Our winner’s were chosen based on the following criteria:

(1) How wild is the photo in question?

(2) Did it celebrate great outdoors month?

(3) What is the resolution and quality of the photo?

(4) How challenging was it to take the photo?

Our winners are emblematic to us of a thrilling, sometimes slightly terrifying and awe-inspiring moment of outdoor wildness.  Enjoy!

FIRST PLACE

Ian Gillespie @Iangillespie

This photo of Ian Gillespie (taken by Jake Anderson) was captured during a sunset hike-and-fly (hike up, paraglide down!) overlooking Salt Lake Valley.

“This backpack-sized aircraft allows me to “live-awesomely,” seeing the world from a new viewpoint and experiencing what life has to offer!” – Ian

SECOND PLACE

Emily Herrmann @EmHerrmann11

Emily, a Case Western Reserve University student, captured her epic leap in stunning resolution.  Sometimes the great outdoors is about spotting wildlife. Other times, it’s about unleashing the wildness within.

THIRD PLACE

Annie Gallagher Yearout @OutdoorsyMama

The vibrant color and dramatic contrast of this photograph captures everything we love about our NatureBridge campus in Golden Gate National Recreation Area!

Follow us on Instagram @NatureBridgePhoto to see how our students, educators and fellow NatureBridgers explore the wild outdoors every day. Have any breathtaking shots of your kids or students connecting with nature? Send them to us via Instagram for a chance to be featured!
